Unlike the traditional cold composting bins, the HOTBIN is able to decompose butter and hard cheeses. The problem with other dairy products, such as liquid based products (which is why their addition is not advised) is that they increase the waste's water content, preventing the HOTBIN from hot composting effectively.
Can I Compost Hard Dairy Products?
Items such as cheese and butter can be added into the HOTBIN (over 40°c) however we would advise chopping to speed up the process.
Can I Compost Runny Dairy Products?
Soft cheese, milk and yoghurt are not advised in the HOTBIN, the liquid content would affect the hot composting process negatively.
