Compost Standard PAS100
Large-scale compost manufacturing in the UK produces compost that conforms to a quality standard called PAS100. This standard checks that the composting process has reached a point where the compost is mature (read for end-use) and stable (resistant to decomposition). This analysis does not evaluate the waste types used to produce the compost but does analyse compost samples for their carbon to nitrogen ratio, which is used to ensure it is ‘mature’ and ‘stable', and levels of NKP nutrients, pathogens and heavy metal potentially toxic elements (PTEs).
